About The Motor City Youth Theatre

Mission Statement
To enrich the lives of youth through participation in dance, music, visual arts, theatre workshops and main stage productions;

To facilitate youth's development of life skills such as problem-solving, decision making and team work;

To offer high quality theatrical productions to the community;

Wouldn't it be wonderful for a wealthy country such as ours to begin to teach all of its citizens at an early age to understand and appreciate the importance the arts play in formulating a complete and enriched life? It's up to people who are passionate for the arts and who work
with youth to expose them to the world of the arts through exciting and enriching activities that they'll want to share with their friends and families.

Motor City Youth Theatre was organized exclusively for educational purposes and to bring the excitement and magic of live theatre to young people and their families as performers and audience participants. Motor City Youth Theatre educates, enriches and enlightens the lives of children and adults in the community and surrounding areas by offering plays, musicals and workshops which address literary and musical works, current issues and multiculturalism.

Motor City Youth Theatre trains a youth population ages five through eighteen, many of whose recreational needs are not often met through sports.

Motor City Youth Theatre offers a non competitive environment where difference is respected.

Motor City Youth Theatre offers all children, not just the wealthy or the gifted, a place where they can improve their speaking, reading dance, music artistic and life skills while expressing themselves and improving their self-concept of knowledge and theatre.

Motor City Youth Theatre activities help to develop a sense of fair play and camaraderie among its members while concentrating on the above skills in a relaxed and safe atmosphere.

Motor City Youth Theatre has worked in schools, churches, halls and even in a coffee shop! Motor City Youth Theatre was most recently sponsored by the Scottish Rite Masons in Detroit for five years as a part of their family outreach program. During that time they were fortunate to be able to rehearse and perform in the 1,500 seat Scottish Rite Cathedral in the Masonic Temple. However, MCYT members are always ready to work or perform almost anywhere and at any time!

Motor City Youth Theatre is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization and contributions are tax deductible as provided under IRS regulations.

In addition to workshops, MCYT, formerly known as Tinderbox Productions presented a six-week performing arts series to the community of Redford as well as touring to schools in Livonia, Redford, and Detroit, and performing at The Livonia Civic Center Library Auditorium and the Livonia Redford Theatre Guild. TinderBox was featured on Channel 7's "From the Heart" in which Erik Smith named TinderBox "Detroit's best kept stage secret" and said that, "If the 1500 seats in the Cathedral Theatre were full just once, they'd be full again and the secret of Tinderbox would be a secret no more."
